Haint blue is a facet of old Southern culture steeped in superstition and hand-me-down culture; the blue is associated with ghosts and is popularly painted on porch ceilings to help protect a house and its inhabitants from the otherworldly.

Barnstars are symbols that are common in farming communities in rural areas of the United States—much like a horseshoe, they’re good luck. Blackbirds may be considered to be good omens (unlike many other black creatures), and sweet pea flowers symbolize gratitude. This is personally significant for me, as I’m looking back at a year full of blessings and meaningful beginnings.
